Gurudwara Sisganj Sahib

Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib is one of the nine historical Gurdwaras located in Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi.
It was first constructed in 1783 by Baghel Singh Dhaliwal to commemorate the martyrdom site of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur. "Sis" in Hindi or Punjabi means 'head'.
It marks the site where the ninth Sikh Guru was beheaded on the orders of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb on 11 November 1675 for refusing to convert to Islam.
The trunk of the tree beneath which the head of the Guru was severed and the well used by him for taking bath during his prison term have been preserved in the shrine.

The present building of the Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib was constructed in 1930, with the gold gild of the domes added in the coming years.

Like all other gurdwaras, this one is also open to people of all religions and faith to visit and meditate. The main sanctum is located at the centre where kirtans and bhajans are recited all day long.
The magnificent kitchen prepares food for hundreds of people on a daily basis. An enormous hall serves langar food to the devotees and pilgrims irrespective of their caste or religion or social status.
